Jack: When we were making it, there were three of us and an emotionally disturbed dog. We were crashing in the quarters of a nearby house. I had a panic attack having to sleep on a pullout couch at this point in my life. Nate and I shared a pullout couch for a month and Andrew slept on the floor. There was this dog that had a lot of issues and she would pee a lot. She’d come into the room when we were building this dollhouse and would piss on the floor. It was a really weird time.
Nate: It’s so funny because this is probably the first time that we’ve talked about this in about a year. Just coming to where we are now, it’s really exciting to think that’s where it all started.
Andrew: Yeah a lot of good memories.

Jack: That’s a new development because for a long time it was like people fishing or people playing tetherball or God forbid your safe search is off… Then it’s straight porn.
Nate: I always think of go-karting when I think of fun. You’re always driving down the road on tour and there are so many places where it says “fun.” Now we are hypersensitive to the word fun, which is just terrible. It’s an overused word.
Andrew: It’s also fun because it’s one of the best words to easily describe something when you don’t want to have a conversation with someone. You know when you come home and people are like, “How was your day?” “It was fun.” Now we have to say, “It was neat.”
Nate: It’s nice that fun kind of means all these different things because we’re not really party animals. We’re not really about having a good time.
Andrew: We’re actually about having a bad time. It’s much preferred.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed. Surprisingly, the single We Are Young is one of the best songs on the album. The rest is overly-simple (in a bad way), and filled randomly with unnecessary and poorly-utilized autotune. I prefer their first album immensely.
